DVI-I stands for Digital Video Interface - Integrated and means a DVI connector that can transmit both analog and digital video data.

DVI-D stands for Digital Video Interface - Digital and means a DVI connector that can transmit only digital video data.

It seemed that DVI-I had more pins on the cable than DVI-D had in input. I was afraid of trying to hook it up It wouldn't have worked I am guessing...

(I had a dvd player with DVI-I output. But I only have DVI-D input. What are my choices?)

It will work. Dvi-i output should be able to work with dvi-d input.
