Yeah, thats it. I can scroll through my entire 35 GB library with one flick, in either the artist listing pane or the album art pane, I dunno what hes talking about.

I find that if I turn off the click-type scrolling then the wheel moves on it's own, and often scrolls a little bit at a time once I've scrolled to the point that I wanted, taking me past what I want.

I said that I had to put it into free-scroll to get it to go through the list in an acceptable manner.

Does anyone else have the Surround?

If you do, do you ever charge it from your computer? Do you notice the touchscreen going screwy? Taps do not hit their targets, holding targets will make them do insane things (like holding delete and it deletes a bunch of characters and throws some new ones in).

I haven't noticed the touch screen go crazy, just a lot of warmth at the bottom when charging from the computer. No problems when it's charging from the wall.

Does yours also get warm with a lot of use?

It's warm within reason. Not any worse than other smart phones I have used, including my 3GS.

My only other points of comparison are the iPhone 4 and the original iPhone, and they do not get that warm.

I could feel the warmth through my iPhone 3GS's back plastic when playing games and such, and the surround has a similar amount. What are you doing with yours when it gets warm (other than plugging it into the computer)?

Just heavier than light use. It is fine for music and what not, but playing a game, streaming netflix, things of that nature, it really warms up.

the Stu, you're a braver man than I buying a device with a first gen OS...

I do like the looks of the Surround though, and it would fit with my lifestyle...

Bought mine Friday, a little more used to it now and I really enjoy it. It's definitely not feature complete yet, but it's stable and does everything that I ask. My only real complaint thus far is that the browser doesn't render everything as well as I'd hoped.

I do think the new OS is pretty safe, it's basically do or die for MS, and they're putting some massive resources behind it. In 6 months to a year, it'll be very competitive.
