Blame Verizon and Sprint for the EVO/Incredible stuff, but it's HTC itself that's blowing up the great unified brand concept we thought was being rolled out with the One series. (J) Butterfly, DNA, One SV/VX... WTFBBQ!

Do they even realize what they're doing wrong? The Butterfly/DNA itself... was it anything but their attempt to be first to market with a 1080p device? Is it really the Two X, or will it be superannuated by a Tegra4-based Two X in a few months, and if so, why did they bother? Which of their devices are going to get timely updates (the One S is still on ICS even internationally!)?

Samsung still releases a ton of models, but they have two flagships so you know which models count. HTC... not so much.

Okay, it's a midrange phone. What's the big deal? Because it says "SV"?

Try looking at car lines some day and tell me the difference between "SL, EL, SEL, XL," etc all mean without having to look that shit up.

The differentiator denoting where the feature set lies on these phones won't be what nomenclature they use, but rather their price points. Much ado about nothing.

I think the Butterfly J and DNA are the same phone, just different names for different countries. And the DNA is part of Verizon's Droid branding.

The HTC One X, One X+, One S, One SV, One VX, is getting a bit muddied though.
I don't think the problem is as much with the branding, but why do we need 3 different mid range phones with fairly close specs. These guys need to stop making so many different models. It's a miracle we get software updates in 8 months with as many products as these guys keep rolling out.

I could have sworn just a year ago some of these companies had promised to cut back on models.

HTC took a good idea (X, S, and V) and pretty much crapped all over it themselves.

this kinda shit needs to end. I don't care what Verizon wants to brand their phones. The SGS3 escaped that. It's time for HTC to step up and say F-off. Phones like the Droid Incredible 4G LTE are an absolute disgrace. This DROID commercial was decent at best and has served its time.

Wonder how much of that is HTC vs the Carriers forcing them to rename for the sake of market uniquity.

Samsung slam dunked the GSIII/Note 2 and pulled off what only Apple was really capable of in the past by releasing essentially the same phone to every major US carrier.

The problem isn't that the Butterfly isn't the DNA, it's that neither is the One -- or, rather, Two.

A one-off before the next real flagship -- ahem, Rezound -- is pointless and actually probably hurts HTC.

You might have a point if HTC had the same marketing budget as Samsung.
