HTC One XL or SGS3?

It's time I ditch my old flip phone from 2005 and step into the smartphone world.

I'm debating between the HTC One XL and the Samsung Galaxy S3, when it's released. I prefer HTC build, but I don't like the fact that it has a non-removable battery. Any thought on which would be a better option? I'm not tied to any particular carrier.

SGS3. The Exynos 4412 + Mali T604 should be much faster overall than the Snapdragon S4 HTC is using and the Samsung will certainly have a more advanced display. Also in the past Touchwiz has performed much better than Sense and Samsung has been more friendly to the modding community than HTC.

I think a lot of people are going to be asking this exact question. But until the SGS3 is at least announced, there is absolutely no way to answer it.

There's a pretty good chance that the Galaxy S III is going to have a non-removable battery. All OEMs are moving to it because it allows for more battery inside a phone when you don't have to design a mechanism for removing the battery. And the number of people that actually remove their batteries is very few.

You can check Anandtech's write up on the S4 chips, which included benchmarks, to get an idea what you can expect from the S4-equiped HTC Ones. Exynos 4412 is still a wild card, as far as I know.

i personally hate this.

its yet another lets follow apple in some form over function "great" idea. this is why almost all consumer grade laptops have those god awful chiclet keyboards now.

Very small (1600mah), non-removable battery and lack of micro SD card makes me completely disinterested in the One X. I was looking forward to it too as I love my aging Evo 4G.

If you're not going to let us swap batteries at least put a large one in the phone. And seriously, 16GB of non-expandable storage in 2012? Really?

It's like HTC WANTS to fail...

I don't understand it either. They took away all the little things people liked on the Android side of things. At least the RAZR max put in a 3200 battery before making it non removable.

And an MSD slot.

A while back ARM claimed the Mali T604 would be 5x as fast as the current Mali 400 used in the Galaxy S2 which would make it the most powerful gpu in an Android device by a considerable margin.

The performance of the Exynos 4412 cpu should be equally impressive since it will have twice as many cores as the current version as well as a higher clock speed.

I'm very curious to see how the S3's SoC stacks up to Krait, particularly in GPU performance. But the aforementioned lack of a removable battery and MSD slot means the One X is only a curiosity at this point. I would never buy one.
