Sounds like the HTC One Mini will be officially announced tomorrow - anyone getting it?

Well, it's rumored to be 4.3", 720p, Snapdragon 400 dual core, w/ UltraPixel camera...if those are true it would crush the GS4 mini.

But what price point - I agree it sounds like a much superior phone and if at the same price is a winner.

The only downside I see is that early shots make it look very nearly as tall as the regular One which seems to partially defeat the point of a smaller phone (yes it'll be easier to hold since it's more narrow). Either optimize for 1 hand use or give a great big beautiful screen.

Disappointed by the 1GB of ram - I believe the earlier leaks said it would be 2GB like the One.

Depends on your point of view. I've had a 5" phone since 2010, so my current 4.7" HTC One (and anything 4.7" - 5") is regular size to me. The Note/Optimus G Pro/Mega/Max/Ultra etc I considered large/huge size, while anything 4.3" to 4.6" is small/mini size.

Then of course there are a bunch of phones that are 4" and below and they're just tiny/puny to me.

Even if I did want a smaller sized phone, I wouldn't want the smaller sized specs that come with them.

Screen to phone size ratio is really bad with this phone and that is what I was trying to say. But maybe that's what you have to sacrifice for the "BOOM...".

There's a good review of the phone here as well as the usual sites.

The phone looks like the perfect smartphone for one-handed use - in size and shape - without being too much of a step down in specifications or features from the HTC One.

If it's free to $100 on contract, I think I might recommend it to friends and family. It would make a good transition phone into the Android OS for all those who are jumping ship from iOS.

Does anyone know when it will be available? I read one site a while back that said it was coming to T-Mobile on August 9th, but there doesn't seem to be anything confirming which carriers are getting it or an official launch date.

The key for me is how wide a phone is. This is narrower than my "4 inch" HTC Incredible S. Shame it's not coming to Canada.

Looks like a solid mid ranger. For the devices intended market I doubt the 1gb of ram is an issue. I'd even consider it as a secondary phone.

After playing around with a moto X and One mini, I have to say how impressed I was with the one handed feel of the Moto. Frankly felt as easy to use one handed as the IP5. Not my thing for a primary device, but I can appreciate how convenient it is sometimes. The One mini felt easier to hold vs the One, but not as good as the X. Though the mini seems to be decently cheaper in price.

It's barely smaller than a SGS4- the SGS4 just has a much better screen-to-bezel ratio.

6mm in width makes a BIG difference for one handed usage. Comparing screen to bezel ratio is a waste of time as the HTC has two front facing speakers.

Read all the reviews, despite the similar dimensions, universally they say the ergonomics are far superior. A giant screen with no bezel might be efficient size wise, but it's not necessarily ergonomically the same. You have less of this phone to hold on to, and you have to each across a higher percentage of the device to touch the other side of the screen.

Hmph. So I got the Mini. I actually really like it. The size really is perfect, and it really does feel a lot smaller than the original One. Also, that Sony announcement didn't come to fruition....however, the battery life is just AWFUL. It's really bad. Performance is ok, noticeably slower than the One (I think it's the RAM more so than processor), but I could live with that....but man, the battery. I don't know if I can do it. Might have to swap for a Moto X.

Yeah, I was surprised that they didn't officially make an announcement. Guess they're being like Samsung and HTC and putting a separate event for each phone.
