Apparently the existence and basic specs of the HTC One Max (I'm just calling it the "Big One") has been leaked.

It sounds like pretty much you would expect given the One and the One Mini.
That screen is way too massive for me - I prefer the 4.5 to 4.7" phones - but this sounds like the perfect phone for anyone who likes phablet sized phones with big batteries. Any bigger and I think it would have to be classified as a tablet with a phone radio. I'm guessing it doesn't have a replaceable battery or microSD card slot, so anyone with those requirements will probably be disappointed.

The One Max should be officially announced next month.

Word of the HTC One Max first surfaced in a leaked document from UK carrier O2, but now the phone seems to be making an appearance in the flesh. Taiwanese site ePrice has gotten its collective mitts on two photos of what's claimed to be the retooled flagship, which boasts a 5.9-inch 1080p display. Differences in the hardware don't exactly jump out at first blush, but the relative distance between the lower speaker grill and its buttons hint at a larger screen. While the One Mini's grate doesn't extend as far as the full-sized smartphone's, the grill on this jumbo device stretches past that of both handsets.Though this model also sports traditional China-specific tweaks such as dual SIM slots, the most notable changes include an upgrade to a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and a 3,200mAh battery. ePrice says an official One Max appearance is rumored for next month at IFA, but we'll keep our eyes peeled for invitations to special unveiling events.

Just sold my HTC One and returned to my Note II

I've also owned a One S and One X+

I like to play with Roms. Returned to my Note II because I don't have to deal with all the Firmware/S-Off/Regional Models that are different specs given to me by HTC. Granted the One is pretty much the same phone worldwide other than Sprint.

I wasn't convinced on the 4MP Snapper. In real low light, it gave you a great shot at a decent picture. But I felt overall, the Note II captured better detail more often - which I feel is more important.

I also realized how little I actually I use the the speakers, I use headphones, so I saw no advantage to the speakers, which made the phone quite big for the sceen size.

And that brings me to my final 2 Points

1) Once you have a Note II, you can't go down in screen size
2) HTC needs some help fast, Open up to the Dev community more

Might be nice for movies with the two front facing speakers.

As much as I hear this, I feel its sort of a gimmick. Buy a stylus if you want one.

Writing anything other than the text app is way to big and useless for solid note taking. I never use mine.

2) HTC needs some help fast, Open up to the Dev community more

Have owned the One and now own both the S4 and Note II, both since their respective launch days. Disagree with point one simply based on personal needs and uses. The S4 has become my daily and main device as soon as I got it. The S4 display is far superior in my eyes and is just about the perfect size for my constant use. Its much more comfortable for me too use and I don't have small hands either. The Note is my second device/work phone now since I don't have to use it as much as the personal line.

Definitely agree with point 2 though as I frequently mod my devices as well and its so much easier on the Samsung devices.

Uh you can't just buy a stylus, the phone needs the necessary tech to use one.

I used mine all the time when I had my Note 2. It was great for jotting stuff down especially during phone calls, taking notes, browsing the web, taking screenshots, and not to mention being able to actually draw/sketch on your phone.

These manufacturers have no clue. The reason why Galaxy Note is awesome is because of the size and the stylus. They copied the size and the battery but left out the stylus. Stylus is the most important part.

HTC isn't new to styli, though the last time they stylus implementations was on the Flyer and on the Jetstream. If neither sound that familiar, then you can understand why they haven't had a stylus on any of their products in a while (part of that was due to Honeycomb and hardware not being that great). That said, on a phone this large I could see them creating a new branch of their Sense UI with features that support stylus/pen input better, and a new Notes app. Hopefully they do add a stylus, because at whatever this is priced at, it would seem kind of a waste if no one bought it for lack of one.

The last time I bought a product with a stylus was back in the PDA days when I had a Pocket PC/Windows Mobile/Windows CE mobile device, a Dell Axim. Resistive touch screens are gone on mobile devices for the most part, but I can see the usefulness of a stylus on screens above 5".

I just wish it had software keys. Then you could move the bottom bezel all the way down just like the top part making it nice and symmetrical. That extra screen real estate would be nice for movies (and it wouldn't make a difference for normal usage compared to the current style).

I don't know why people are making such a big deal out of it. I takes 5-10 minutes to adjust. Get over it. Besides if you don't like the spillover menu, 4.2.2 enabled an option where you long press the Home button to get the menu.

From what I've read and the surveys I've seen (wife works in market research) most people don't use the stylus on the Note II. As the other poster said, the screen is too small to do any serious note-taking and there is a lack of apps (other than what comes with the Note II). Finally, people buy the Note for its screen size not its stylus.

It's a Motorola XT882, but yes a 4 inch screen.

It's not a big deal I agree. But it's still needlessly stupid. And HTC isn't in a position to be doing needlessly stupid things.

I think s-pen is a differentiator to some, not all, and if two phones are similar, many would pick the one with this 'feature'.

Otherwise I think the phablet that will 'win' will be the one that provides a large screen in the most usable package. The Note 2 nailed it for its generation - too big for many, but for those looking for a pocketable, single device with a larger screen - it was great and people got spoiled with the battery life.

So IMO - 5.7 to 6 is all doable as long as the phone remains easily pocketable, is no heavier than the Note 2, and gets competitive battery life. If any of the new phablets fails in any of these aspects, then IMO it won't be a mainstream success. That's why IMO the Z Ultra is DOA and will be a niche product. It's too big to fit into suit/pants pockets comfortable and likely has meh battery life.

As a Note 2 user, I can go a little bigger, but not much and no heavier as it already gets somewhat tiresome holding it for a while.
