Rumored device, but evleaks has an animation and closeup of the front camera. Supposedly featuring a Snapdragon 805 SoC, 3GB RAM, support for category 6 LTE, a larger display (5.5", 2560 x 1440p), and a new body made of aluminum, ceramic(s), and silicone. The new body should be more durable and possibly water and dust-resistant, a la Sony's Xperia line.

Need more details/confirmation and release date, but count me in for one if that raised lens means a higher megapixel camera sensor. Need a replacement for my broken Nokia Lumia 1520 (shattered screen :( ), and I had an M7 prior to that (which unfortunately had that blue/purple haze problem), so a high MP - say 20 MP or more - of the rear-facing M8 sensor would suit me. Was leaning toward the OnePlus One or mini M8 prior to this leak, but with this and the Xperia Z3 coming out, it's a tough decision.

It's strange that the front-facing camera of the M8 is high resolution and quality than the rear-facing one - which I guess suits selfie-lovers just fine :D - but it would be excellent if that is rectified with this M8 variant.

I'm not sure I'm entirely sold on the glossier-looking, piano-black finish versus either brushed aluminum or the soft aluminum of the previous Ones - I really want to hold it to see how it feels - but it's a unique design overall to say the least. In the closeup it looks more like anodized aluminium with subtle brushed ridges than the animation (an early render?) would indicate, so it might not be too slippery or glossy, which was one of the few complaints I had about the Lumia 1520, for instance. That orange ring is reminiscent of either Cortana in WP8.1 or Sauron, though. :p Not sure why HTC wants to draw that much attention to the primary ("Prime"?) lens. It still looks pretty going by the 3D animation, but stylistically it's a bold choice to have that bright ring.

EDIT: Looks like it's being released in September, around the same time Samsung is coming out with the Galaxy S5 Prime.

That camera better have a good glass or else it is going to get scratched a ridiculous amount.

Why would they need to add 'dead' space below the top bezel? There does seem to be some sort of sensor there but why can't they make it flush with the speaker like in the M8?

Big top and bottom bezel + 5.5" screen is going to make for one big phone, even for a phablet. They're clearly choosing the opposite direction of LG's all screen phones. LG's 5.5" flagship will be around the size of the Z2 while this 5.5" Prime phone will be more like the size of the 5.9" LG G Pro 2.

That's not to say it's inherently bad - choice is good and it would suck if OEMs had duplicate phones.

The rear camera design is terrible, similar to the One X, it is not flush with the rest of the body.

They fixed this issue with the One M7, then took a step backwards in design with the One M8 with the dead zone below the screen. Now another step backwards with the rear camera design.
