Hi all!

Just a simple question, and to ask if my understanding is correct on the two displays in regards to their power requirements while using black and white.

To save battery Microsoft recommends using black, and a dark theme which I believe would be perfect for AMOLED as they require less power for reproducing black, but is that the case for S-LCD?

From what I know, S-LCD is just an LCD developed by Sony so fundamentaly it would need full power to the crystal to create black? AMOLED requires little to no power to create black?

S-LCD displaying white require no power to the crystal and thus uses less power? Where as AMOLED requires full power or a degree of power?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, just been nulling over this for a little while now, and thought I would ask to see if anyone could shed a light on it.

So when using the HTC Mozart with a S-LCD, it would be best to use a white theme, and with a Samsung Omnia 7, it would be best to use black?

To create true black, AMOLED turns off. Therefore, no power is used.

SLCD uses the same power draw all of the time. AMOLED varies based on what color it is displaying. So with an AMOLED screen, yes, you should try to keep your themes dark. (But I would consider that true for all phones, who likes white themes?)

Thanks for your reply, I'm going to try and test this theory in regards to SLCD on the Mozart.

To test I'll turn the lock screen off by setting it to never, and leave the phone on while using a white theme, then a black theme.

I'll post my findings and whether there is any noticable difference that could be attributed to the different themes.
