HTC First On Straight Talk Wireless?

Bought an unlocked HTC First without doing my homework, thinking that AT&T phones and T-Mo sims were cross compatible but it looks like I can't do much besides make phone calls on my new First thanks to different baseband frequencies.

Always wanted to go contact free and from the looks of it my HTC First supports the 850Mhz and 1900Mhz frequencies straight talk employs and the coverage is fantastic in my area. However, I know there is more to phone compatibility than just what frequencies the radio operates on.

Will I run into any more snafus or will the first be fully functional on Straight Talk's network?

Why would anyone want a HTC first.

HTC one on the other hand is a different story.

it's cheap and I think decent for $150. don't remember specs but Facebook basically wrote it off as a failure. you can install a custom launcher and get rid of all the Facebook stuff and have a decent smartphone.

It's not a bad phone. Just a failed software experiment.

When you sign up for Straight Talk, get an AT&T compatible SIM. That will get you the most compatibility. If you're fine with the 2.5GB data limit, of course.

Yeah, it's pretty much a HTC One Mini with a stock android build (once you disable the launcher) - at a killer price.

Performance on par with SG3, 340+ PPI screen, 8mm thin, nice solid/gorgeous construction, about as close to a HTC nexus as we will see, $130 clams brand spanking new.

I do not disagree that the One is an incredible phone.

I strongly considered getting the First before the One came out. Still a fantastic value for what it is, nearly forgot the thing existed since it has been a few months since it came out.

I've been meaning to pick one up as an extra Android phone for the longest time.

Lucked out on an Ebay Auction. Looks like it goes for ~$200 most places brand new. Still a good deal IMO.

Yeah, you're talking $200 outright off contract. It's $100 cheaper than a Nexus 4 and while the N4 has better overall specs, it's still a decent phone for the money.

Just really unsure about future software updates since the things sold miserably. I guess that's where CM comes in.

Anyhow, I didn't realize I had to modify the phone's APN in order for it to "see" t-mobile's network. Phone gets 4G just fine on t-mo, although it just flat out doesn't get mobile data when on edge for some reason. Luckily, its 4G all the way at work and Wifi at home where I spend most of my time so...

And Straight Talk "ate my quarters" so to speak when it used my plan credit without actually activating my sim card. Its been a bit of a pain, I'm thinking of asking for my money back, or I might try and get them to activate it over the phone and just use my month.

Anyhow, there's an update if anyone cared.
