That's fine but 99% of AV enthusiasts will take the plasma since they actually care about picture quality.

I wish there was one perfect phone for 2011...

That would combine:

Super AMOLED+ on qHD
One super camera without 3D gimmick
HTC Sense UI
Comes out very soon for $199 (like Evo3D). Do we know GSII's pricing? Date is Q3 2011 right?

Bear in mind 720p as a computer display would be horrendous.

Evo3D's qHD would be glorious for txting, emails & browsing. Which is the primary use of smart phones today along with making calls. Watching video is a distant third.

The S2 is already out in some markets. I'd expect it to be $200 on contract like normal but even if it's more expensive that wouldn't stop me from buying it.

After owning a phone with a Super AMOLED screen I could never settle for a mediocre LCD display even if the resolution is higher.

SGS2 doesn't use the Tegra 2 yet. There are going to be two different versions of the phone afaik. There's a tegra 2 version for developing countries. And the Exynos version for US/Europe/Korea/Japan.

That's the Galaxy S2 vs the HTC Sensation and you can see it's almost 50% faster. Obviously the higher resolution and lower memory on the Sensation will affect the results, but I think it's fair to say the Exynos chip is a beast.

I care zero about the 3D gimmick (although it is cool).

I want Evo3D because it's a beast of a phone offering 1.2Ghz dual-core. It will be the fastest phone out on the market for sometime, at least til end of 2011.

I'll be upgrading from my humble Blackberry Tour and am looking for an all-in-one portable multimedia machine.

Galaxy S II has 480 x 800 resolution = 384,000 pixels
3D Evo has 540 x 960 = 518,400 pixels.

That's a whopping 35.2% more pixel count than Galaxy. People say Galaxy has a nicer screen quality, but there's no away around the sheer resolution difference.

Evo3D's aspect ratio is perfect quarter-HD (qHD). So all youtube vids, movies and media will be displayed perfectly.
No, it will not. Stop spreading FUD.
Richard Yardell has an AT account now? :hmm:

So when is the release date in US? What's the speculation?

I'm gonna see this what the fuss is regarding SAMOLED. I'll hit up a Sprint store today and compare Galaxy S1 & Original Evo side by side.

Will report back.

Galaxy S = SAMOLED
Galaxy S II/DROID Charge = SAMOLED+

Quadrant scores are usually overrated.
Don't rely too much on them...I'm not sure why reviewers out there still use it as a benchmark.

Yes, I'm aware. I suspect the Plus is a minor incremental improvement. At a Sprint store, I can compare them side by side.

Droid Charge doesn't have Plus? Wiki is wrong?

Go to Verizon and see the screen on the Droid Charge. S-AMOLED Plus is a big improvement over the S-AMOLED found on the original Galaxy S. Biggest improvement is the elimination of the PenTile found on the nonPlus display.

This should rule it out as a viable phone then.

GS2 just got a slight push. With other high end phones coming out with the qHD screens, I wonder if Samsung will refresh the GS2 pretty quickly? Given their track record . . . probably around the time Ice Cream Sandwich is released?

As a semi-casual user, am I the only one who likes Sense UI and don't care for rooting? I would miss Tethering, but I hardly use them anyway.

It did for me. Hopefully Samsung and LG won't follow HTC's path. If they do, I will either stick to Google Nexus phones, change to WP7, or keep being a dumb phone user like I am now.

I like what this guy said in the comments section of the article.

Would you stop using the word "viable".
I do not think it means what you think it means.
Anyway. Get it through your head, percentage wise. Not many people swap ROMS.

AT is not a general population forum, most of us here are some level of tech enthusiast. It's useful to know whether or not a phone will be open to the modding community.

Yeah, but they're the ones who advise other people what to get.

Look at LG -- their entire US marketing strategy seems to be based on encouraging cyanogen.

I used it once. And for me, its true. No mods or roms, the phone is not a viable option for me. And regardless of whether you root or mod your phone, you shouldn't be so keen to just rent your phone rather than own it. Would you buy a PC from HP/Dell/Acer/etc and leave all pre-installed software completely untouched?

I had the so called "Epic" for 2 weeks before throwing it at the Sprint rep.
it was a POS and the screen was far from the be all end all some people make it out to be..

I literally can not tell the difference from the EVO1 to the Epic laying side by side.. but then again my eyes are getting old..

But I sure as hell can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p and even more between refresh rates..
Right now the Samsung is not coming to Sprint and I'm not willing to change so that pretty much says EVO3D 4tWinz for me.

You guys saying SAMOLED+ is great and yes it is but you do not know how good a display is in the Evo 3D. It could be a good display plus the added resolution could make it better overall.

Having the bootloader locked down doesn't mean that you can't root it, right? The Droid X's bootloader was locked down but it was rooted and I presume that tethering apps were made available for it.

A locked bootloader just makes it a lot harder. The Evo 3D is a huge release so it`s almost surely to eventually get cracked but no one knows for certain.
