Been looking for a new phone. I really like the Samsung Galaxy S2 but Rogers has been slow getting it out, as it's LTE only. It's not even available where I am anyway. So I've been looking at the HTC Evo 3D, which is available on standard plans, and there's some good deals right now. It's currently Rogers flagship phone. I'm still keeping my options open at this point. I could get the S2 on Bell, but they're expensive, and customer service is awful.

Spec wise, it's very similar to the Galaxy S2. It has a lower MP camera and doesn't shoot 1080p video. Has a paralax 3D display for photos, video, and games. Good res. I've seen the display in the LG Optimus 3D, which is god awful. Not really big on that gimmick for this application. Just looking for a good, powerful phone.

Anybody use this bad boy? How's it been to you?

The phone is brick heavy, i have used both the Rogers and sprint and my impression is that the sensation is overall the same although slimmer phone and equally capable. Some people may like heavier phones because they think weight = quality.

I would go with sensation unless the 3d is a must for you. Or may be the HTC amaze or an equivalent.

If it is anything like my Evo 4g you best get backup batteries. I use my phone a lot, so I have to change the battery like 2-3 times a day.

I've got a Rogers evo3d, unlocked and using on telus right now in Alberta. All I can say is that I've got no complaints. Battery life has been phenomenal (it's my business phone, so I use it all day with calls and info lookup over hspa+), the 3d works VERY good, and the UI is really creamy once it's cached. The only downside of the sensation is the ROM size is 1GB vs 4GB on the Evo, if I'm not mistaken. And honestly, if you need more than 5MP in your phone, you should probably just get a camera.

Considering how long your contracts are up there, I think the little wait for the Galaxy S II is worth it.

No kidding.
I thought the US contract system was bad...Canada is even worse with 3 year contracts.

Here's a look at what Rogers will be asking for their LTE devices:

HTC Jetstream: Launching October 18th:
3-year contract: $499.99
2-year contract: $549.99
1-year contract: $599.99
No-Term: $799.99
LTE Samsung Galaxy S II:
3-year contract: $199.99
2-year contract: $549.99
1-year contract: $599.99
No-Term: $649.99
LTE Sierra Wireless 754S Mobile Hotspot:
3-year contract: $129.99
2-year contract: $149.99
1-year contract: $169.99
No-Term: $199.99
Only $50 off full retail price for a 1 year contract? Only $100 of full retail price for a 2 year contract?
Epic fail.

The 3D part will be cool for the first 2-5 min then its over. The rest of the phone is cool and all but don't buy it because its '3D'. You'll take a pic of someone giving you the finger in 3D then thats about it. [my co worker has this phone]

Don't waste your "3 year" upgrade on this 3D gimmick device.
Save it for the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE or Nexus "whatever".

It's true that 3 year contracts are terrible, but the 'Big 3' now have pretty good early upgrade methods. And, there are quite a few cheap phones to buy (evo 3d can be found brand new on kijiji as low as $400 form a big city like Edmonton). So I certainly wouldn't consider getting one a 'waste' by any definition. There won't be any significant 'leap' in performance over the Evo for a little while now, so you could wait. But then when do you buy? There's always a 'leap' around the corner.

As an EVO 3D owner, I'd say wait for the galaxy unless you get the EVO3D for a discount. I love the phone, but I miss the lightweightness of my Pre. I had no choice but to get an EVO as there was no timeline on the SGS2 and my Pre was dying.

Weight is really the only qualm I have, otherwise it's been great. 3D is useless to me. The SGS2's camera is what really makes me want to try to sell the EVO3D, but I'm too lazy to bother with that.
