I was crazy ant went with a Mits. DLP, that was dump.....
Now I'm going with a nice projector but have no idea which way to go. So far the best info I can find point to the Epson 5010 and a Sony one. Price point is around $3k if needed.
Plan is to use this for movies, gaming and general TV watching in a light controlled room with about 17ft viewing distance.

Love the idea of a 200inch screen. Crazy or dum in such a small room?

17 foot viewing distance is probably best served by around 140-160 inches

Sorry, I don't really know anything about the current projectors in the 3k price range.
I have a mitsu HC3800 which has served me well for the last year or so, but I'm only pushing to a 106 inch screen, and my good seats are at approx 10 feet viewing distance, with another row of seats about 15 feet back and then a couple of folding chairs about 20ish feet back...

$3k for a 200" screen? good luck, even a $6k Sony VPL-VW95es can't handle >130" screen satisfactorily.

price, screen size, picture quality, pick 2.

Check the Panasonic PT-AE7000U which shares the Epson 5010 lcd panels but has screen memory in case you want 16x9 & 2.35:1, and the Acer H9500.

http://www.projectorreviews.com/#reviews has reviews on these two and the Epson 5010.

I was going to get an Epson 8700UB as 3D is a price premium, but the current gen 3D PJ's are awesome in 2D.

Extras considerations: Do you need low lag time for gaming? AT screen? Low light in the background(kids or gametime)?

I also found this material if you want an AT screen in a larger size. I wil need to trim it down for my useage, if it can handle 3D.

JVC, JVC, JVC...

130 inch or so is about the max your are going to be able to power unless you get up into the 20k or so range.

200" at 17'?

You're insane. That's an 8' high screen.

Factor in the distance and it's just nuts. What size are you running right now?

I'll 2nd looking into the JVC too. I don't know too much about them as they were out of my initial price range and knowledge, but over at AVSforum they are well known and well revered. To be honest, with all the feature creep I have done in the last month, we might as well look at them for our basement too.

They have come down a bit in price and the features are getting considerably better on the lower end models.

I have had 3 JVC projectors in the last 4 years (always upgrading, just like computers) and the picture quality is amazing compared to the 3ccd projectors.

Thanks for the esponses everyone.

I have never owned a projector so I think I overstated my wants. 200" screen is nuts a not gonna happen. I just sent my 92" Mistsibishi back becuase of the LOUD buss noise it had. I loved the screen but its not for me...

120 to 140 is more like the scren size I'd like to shoot for.
I do plan on gaming occasionally so lag would be a factor. Reviews are saying a lag of 25+ms on the espon? That sounds very, very bad.

Jvc and a 120 inch screen would be great. Just note the bigger the screen the more expensive the projector. To get 120 inches out of a cheap <5k$ projector you need to have a fully light controlled room...

<=30ms lag is decent for LCD PJ's for shooters, slower paced games will become noticable by 100ms. I believe DLP have next to nothing for lag maybe The-Noid can confirm that.

Off the top of my head, I thought the Epson 5010 had more like 80ms lag. The Panasonic AE7000U has the same LCD panels and but is supposed to have lower lag than the Epson in it's "game" mode.

The last few days, I have been leaning towards the Panasonic for it's extra functions, but I might change that if the JVC or the sony that you found have the Panasonics lower lag, and remote controllable lens memory/scope options for 2.35, and the Epsons better brightness & contrast.

Is 120" diagonal or wide? 2.35:1 or 16:9?

Thanks again,
My room will be completely light controlled so that'll help.
The lag stuff scares me since I plan on gaming, no shooters but it still sounds bad.
It sucks that no one carries these around the Dallas-ftw area. Only cheap models or over $7k.
