HT Problem or Is my CPU dying?

It all started when I upgraded to the 3.8 catalyst. I started getting BSODs. I was still stable to 2XPrime95, 1XPrime95+1X3dMark03, and memtest so I diidn't think my CPU was dying. I tried reinstalling windows, but I got errors and it would only install after a couple of reboots and then it was a corrupted install (it ran, but was buggy). I was still getting frequent reboots; Save Dumps and system errors. After lots of troubleshooting, I turned off HT and noticed the problem disappeared. I tried reinstalling, removing any hardware I could (all except the video card), but still had the same problems. I just reinstalled with HT disabled and had a flawless install. Does this mean my CPU is dying? Could the video card cause these errors? It runs very stable now, though I'm still installing. Here's my system, btw

You know, I've been on these boards for a while and always try to help others with tech support. Problem is, no one ever helps me it seems.

Yes, I uninstalled 3.8 and went back to 3.7 as soon as it started happening. I installed Windows without HT, then enabled it in BIOS and had no errors then, it's only when I tried to install XP with HT enabled that I get corrupted installs and numerous reboots. These are the errors I got before I turned off HT.

EDIT: I must say, there is a noticable loss in speed (but I'm not o/c'ing yet), but it runs better than it ever did. This build has been quite a struggle, but I have most of my install done w/o incident. I think it really could be my video, I'm just not ready to junk a $300 9 month old card. It sucks. As far as my system benches, the only one that's really hurt is my CPU, which dropped from a 10300 to an 8500. If it is my CPU, it's been flaky since I got it. Maybe I shouldn't feel bad RMA'ing it, but I did break warranty just a bit with my 1GHz o/c and Zalman 7000CU.

Thanks for the overwhelming support. For those who even bother to read this you're witnessing my last post here. You know, peer tech support is supposed to be about users helping users. Not "Look how cool my system is" or "Boy are you dumb". I need to go figure how to unregister my account. I apologize for the very few people that get it and really try to help. I witnessed one this weekend get belittled by an elite member for trying to help someone and <gasp> offer a differing opinion. That's why I've seen a steady diminishment of these boards since I registered. Heck, I really didn't think anyone would help here, but I do suspect there's a disordered queue of members that'd jump on this opportunity to call me names for expressing what I see as a true and reasoned opinion. Have fun, I won't respond.

I'll try.

HT does put more stress on the CPU. Does it do the same when you dont overclock? How much Vcore?

Yes, maybe you could try more Vcore, test out your mem with Memtest86, stress again with HT on/off, or borrow a bud's CPU.

As for the comment on people not answering: I find many of my threads light traffic with few answers. Why? Some problems are harder than others to solve, and I often skip threads where I feel I can't contribute much. But easier problems...I can easily offer a few suggestions to get the user started.

Just another perspective on low traffic threads, I suppose. Take this thread for instance...see how it hasn't been frequented much, and most of the responses are pretty useless? It's a hard problem, so not much can be said.
