HT guys: Center channel problem

My friend added to his system yesterday when he purchased a Klipsch RC-35 speaker. The problem is that on his RCA projection tv, there is no real way to put the speaker on top of the tv. There is a small 2 inch border along the top, and then it severely slopes down. Is there a center channel stand that he can buy that will work with these slim rear projection tvs?

He can not place it below the tv.

That's a pretty damn good idea there. I will let him know about it, but I believe it will be too far back from the tv. I was hoping to find a speaker stand made specifically for this situation (would have longer legs and possibly suction cups for the back side)...

I have seen that solution before but the shelf is more straightforward since you'd probably have to customer make a stand since the RCA isn't too common a platform.

That's exactly what I did.

Unfortunately, the speaker was a bit bigger than the shelf. Oh well.

Whoa, I'd be scared my stuff would fall of my tv when I cranked the bass.... but maybe it's just the angle that looks bad.

Before I replaced my wega, I used to have a center channel shelf on it pic

I don't know how hard it would be to mod one of those to get a more extreme angle on the back. You'd have to extend the legs quite a bit, and by that time it would probably be pretty unstable. If I needed to do this (and I didn't want to do the shelf thing, which is the best option), I'd probably take my old shelf and then add some cardboard to the back cut to match the angle of the tv slant, so it would have contact all the way along and distribute the weight more. My center channel isn't very heavy (I'm not sure how much yours is) so a couple of layers glued together in two verticle panels on the right and left cut to match the tv would probably support it pretty well.

It probably wouldn't look too good unless you painted it afterward, but that's my ghetto stand idea 🙂

GEt some of that foam liner stuff you put in tool box chests and silverware cabinets.

It'll hold up there on the slant.

I did it with my TV

Try this...

There is something I saw at officemax or office depot that might work as well...it is a shelf that you can put on top of a monitor (has adjustable rear leg supports that can you adjust to create the level shelf area)...should work for this as well, but can't seem to find it either of their websites...

I tried some of that on older TV i had and after about a week, it left some black sticky imprint on it...I wouldn't recommend this, althought I do agree that it will hold up the speaker..

I've got a 15" subwoofer on the ground for bass. There is nothing earthshaking that will come out of the center channel. You are right though about the angle. The shelf was too small for the center channel but I only realized it after I installed it (poorly too).

Use goo off and it'll get rid of the residue
