Okay..

Will a hyper threading cpu work in a non HT mobo? How about vice versa?

Thanks..

The mobo MUST support hyperthreading in its BIOS, not sure what kind of ADAPTOR can do this. You can mix and match mobo and cpu without problems but you will not get hyperthreading. The mobo BIOS has to initialize the second logical CPU and pass the info to the OS. HT can be disabled in the BIOS.

What the freaky!? It's like a slocket!

EDIT:
PowerLeap now offers an adapter which can help to make many mainboards HT-capable. The prerequisite for it, however, is BIOS support from the manufacturer. In practice, there are a number of boards with chipsets from Intel's 845 line that are supposed to be "upgradeable" in this way.

if you actually read that, it notes that not all boards will work with it
you have to make sure the chipset, and hte chipset rev, both support it (even if its not "official")
i didnt read much, so maybe theres more...

otherwise:
HT cpu + non HT mobo = check
HT mobo + non HT cpu = check

check= will work

however, HT obviously will not work

First off, Powerleap makes great products... but this one is pretty wacky. Many planets have to align just right for this baby to work.

As for the original question: Yes, a HT cpu will work in a non-HT board. You just won't be able to take advantage of HyperThreading. And yes, a non-HT cpu will work in a board that supports Hypterthreading. But again, you won't magically be able to us HyperThreading.

what he said and what mobo are you currently using? most i845PE mobos support HT through a BIOS update

You mentioned HT, but what you should be concerned about is whether or not the board can support the 800mhz FSB. Definitely not all boards can support a 'c' chip (w/800mhz FSB).

my old SOYO P4X400 Dragon P can take "C" cpus cuz its new bios allows 300fsb..
