OK, I already have a 16:9 TV with a Panasonic RV-31 DVD player. Now I need a surround sound speaker set plus a receiver. I can't get the Onkyo HTS650 here. Here's a list with about which one I can get: http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?k=4&k2=352&k3=360 You can convert those prices to dollars if you divide them by 1.4 :)

Thanks in advance.

That's not a very big selection. Most of those are HTIB sets too. :\

Good low priced receivers:
Yamaha 5550
Pioneer 811/812
Onkyo TR-SX600
Sherwood 6108/7108
Denon

Do you have any hifi stores over there? Go audition speakers because though people will tell you get X or Y or Z, the best judge of sound is your own ears. I know people who swear up and down that their Klipsch set rocks, but the horn tweeters give me massive headaches, for example.

Interesting selection on that page, but it makes sense since you're not in the states...you don't see Jamo and Canton here too much, even tho they're both very good manufacturers. They both are very power hungry speakers tho, so be careful if you're only getting an entry level receiver with no amp.

But $800 for both surround sound and receiver...the Pioneer 711 is very well suited to your situation. As for speakers, I'm a huge fan of Paradigms, so depending on how much they go for overseas, maybe atoms/titans all around, or mini-monitors/monitor 3s.

Oops, mistyped. Yes, that's the one I have. I got mine for about $300 US shipped.

FANTASTIC receiver. Remote for it is better than most other units but it still sucks. High bandwidth component switching, clean power, solid build. Not as solid and powerful as my old Sherwood was, but definitely worth the money.

That receiver costs here about $664 :( Or can I get some nice speaker set for about $300?
