HT an i7 860

As far as a gaming machine, is it really going to improve performance that much?

I honestly don't know enough about HT to make a decision, and I thought I'd throw it out there to you guys.

The rig is in my sig, all stock speeds right now.

HT only benefits 3D, video and photo editing + some other pro. software. Games benefit 0% or even have a little penalty <5% with HT enabled.

thats not entirely true as some games do benefit from HT when using Windows 7. with the quad core its not enough to matter though. however with a dual core the HT is very much effective for gaming.

I was just going to say, on a dual-core it can be a big boost, but on an 860 (quad) only highly threaded apps like video, etc will benefit.

FSX is a game and it benefits from HT because many of us simmers use apps like FS-Commander, FSUIPC, realtime, FS-Passenger, etc, etc...

4 threads for FSX and the rest for the complementing apps

🙂
