Even pushing down on the spring is fine, but pushing up on the heatsink may be a problem.

The problem is, if it pushes the spring and causes the northbridge heatsink to sit unevenly, you could run into problems... its not like the KT266A is "cool" running...

Yeah, but I think that the thermal paste they use holds it down pretty well. Like I can push all the way down on the springs on mine & the heatsink won't shift at all. I should add that I'm testing on a Iwill KK266-R, so it could be different for the shuttle (although I believe they use very similar mounting meathods).

Well I did a "test run" to see if it would fit.. and I was pushing pretty hard on that clip and it wasn't doing too much clipping.. could be cause i'm a wuss, but the spring from the north bridge was definitely creating some resistance... I'd rather spend $30 on a new HSF than $130 on a new CPU...

Anybody got some recommendations for a good, quiet fan that is NOT AS WIDE as the Volcano5??

Thanks.

I had the exact same problem 2 nights ago when making a rig for a friend.

There will be no prob tho, the actual pressure of the HS is from the spring, and all the v5 does is press the spring down some, it worked fine for me, it will be no prob

I think the Alpha cooler has the same prob, with part of it overlapping to the screw. (I'll see, come the 25th :)) Some people bust out the dremel, some just keep it unmodified.. I haven't heard of any problems arising with people putting big hs's on the Shuttle board, though. It should be ok. If it's a concern you could try an SK-6..
