My friend used the stock AMD HSF for his 2800+ for a long time with his cpu temp. at 60C all the time. Later his cpu temp jumped up to 80C and he couldn't stand it. So he bought a Vantec VT-VA4-C7040 to try to cool things down a little bit. Now his cpu temp goes down to 50C. However, he complains that the Vantec HSF is too noisy (it rotates at 5600rpm compare to ~3000rpm of the stock HSF, sure...)
I guess it helps by reducing the fan speed down to ~4500rpm. (My friend said 60C is ok, as long as it's not so noisy) I don't think that Vantec HSF comes with a fan speed adjustment control. So is there a way to set the fan speed in that case? Can it be done in the BIOS (his mobo is a cheap Gigabyte GA-7VT600-PL)? Or is there an extra controller he can buy to adjust that Vantec fan's speed?
