HSF stops spinning when using monitoring apps

I've just recently put together a new system, and I wanted to see how hot my Core 2 Duo CPU runs with the stock fan and so I installed Motherboard Monitor as I've used that in the past and it has worked great. When I loaded it up, I noticed (luckily I hadn't put the case sides on) that the HSF had stopped spinning like it should. It was weird as it would spin for a second, then stop, spin again for another second, then stop, and so forth. So, basically this is no good. I tried Hardware Sensors Monitor, and it also does the same thing. Lastly, I installed PC Wizard 2007, and it reports fine without interfering with the HSF. I would rather use the other 2 monitoring apps, but I can't because of what it does to the HSF. I was wondering guys, why on earth is it doing this for? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Some of those programs have options to throttle the fan, sounds like they're misbehaving in some way. See if there's an option to turn off the fan control and just use them to monitor, if you prefer them to the one that actually works

Thanks for the advice. I'm just a little worried that if I do that, I will cause damage to the CPU as it won't be cooled properly. It might take me a while to fumble around looking in the options...

if you're running at stock speeds it should be fun with a c2d processor, you can even underclock it to be on the safe side. Some bios options let you put a limit on temperature before it will just shutdown your pc. You can set that to like 70 for the safe side too.
