HSF Question

Ive seen a lot of aftermarket HSF's that are rather huge and weigh a ton (in terms of HSF's) But my question is with somethign like a tuniq tower or asus silent sqaure, all that wieght hanging out off of the motherboard has to put alot of stress on the motherboard and i would be affraid of it cracking traces or somethign. Am i just being paranoid or does anyone else feel the same way?

Edit: Wrong window meant to be in general hardware section. Sorry.

Everyone else just throws those huge heatsinks on and forgets about them. I personally paid a couple of bucks for some 20 guage galvanized wire from Wal-Mart, and "hung" my Scythe Ninja from the bar that goes across the top of my case. I figure that the wire cost alot less than my motherboard, so why not? Plus, it only took about 90 seconds to do, after the heatsink was mounted.

most heatsinks have like 4 mounting points to distribute the weight evenly, at least on socket AM2 and 775. i've had a zalman 7700 for a while and I never had any problems with motherboards warping or cracking.

Your heatsink isn't huge, it's not any higher than the stock heatsink. It's just larger in diameter. The ones he was asking about, and the one that I have, are 150mm tall, and weigh at least as much as your 7700. Weight plus leverage is quite different from weight with no leverage.😉
