I want to buy everything by tommorow at the latest... maybe go to newegg and do a will call since I can't wait.
I'm going w/ the A64 3000 and dunno which mobo yet...

my current setup is:
2400 XP
ECS KT333
r9800pro
512 corsair value pc3200
enermax 431w

which board would be the best to get? and chipset? a couple of em arent in stock.. but most of em are, also, whats the best HSF thats semi easy to install and is cost-effective? I don't plan to OC that much, maybe a little bit. any help would be appreciated, thanks

edit: should i also go w/ the 3200+ now that its only ~$40 more?

That review didn't even have mine. Thermaltake Silent boost K8 at SVC ($28+ship) or newegg ($37).
Mothernoard ASUS K8V or MSI neo something.

If you're going AMD, get one of the KT600 MBs (not sure which one though).

Thats all good and well, but he is asking about the Athlon 64 🙂

ASUS K8V + Boxed retail cooler unless you plan to OC. The A64's run pretty cool. If you want to OC, the Zalman's seem to be pretty popular. I have a Thermaltake Venus 12 on mine, bought a oem cpu thinking the boxed cooler would be junk but wished I'd just bought the retail instead.

how much longer is it until this comes out ?

"For mobos what are you looking for? Just something basic or do you need IEEE-1394, Gigabit etc?"

I just need about 4 USB ports and support for serial ATA and some decent onboard sound, that boxed cooler looks fine... seems to cool better than a lot of the aftermarket ones, also... should I go with the 3000 or 3200 as far as price/perfomance goes, I mostly use the PC for gaming, thanks for the help so far

edit: the 3200 would be $49 more than the 3000

edit #2: checked a review, looks like the 3000 vs. 3200 doesnt do much for gaming, so so far I am looking at buying this:

Yes, boxed cooler is fine if you don't OC, as they run cool. I would go with the 3000+, as the 3200 just has more cache, and in most places, it doesn't make a difference (see benchmarks)

So, the Athlon64s don't fit the KT600 MBs. That's pretty lame.

The Athlon64 has 754 or 940 pins depending on which version you get, have an internal memory controller, work in 32 or 64 bit instead of only 32bit, vs the Athlon XP which has 462 pins and requires a northbridge and is much slower older generation. How do you get "lame" out of that ???????
