I'm ordering for a friend right now, it is probably going to be going on a MSI K7T266 PRO2-RU. I don't believe he plans to overclock. There's just too damn many of them! I don't want to swap fans and Heatsinks. Just use it the way it comes as I'm ordering it right now :) Noise doesn't really matter (to me anyways, it might to him :))

In the meantime I'll continue researching..

Get him the Dr. Thermal TI-V77L. It costs 22$, uses a 70mm quiet fan and has a great clip. That's whay I am getting for my friend's new system.

Order a glaciator from Here for only 22$ shipped w/ Artic Silver. I got mine yesterday and it beat my old vantec 6035-d and is a lot quiter than those delta screamers.

I'm looking for a HSF from newegg for a Athlon XP also. The Retail chips only cost on average about $10 more than the OEM ones. I don't want to spend much more than that difference on a HSF, however i'm planning on overclocking, so if spending more will get me a better overclock, then I don't mind.

So far in this thread there have been 4 different responses suggesting 4 completely different things. Is there any HSF that is definitively the best for the price?

Thanks for the help

You can check out overclockers.com for a review of the heatsinks and fans. I am running a Volcano 6cu on a 1500xp and the coolermaster hhc-002 on a 1800xp. both are in the mid 30 C range. The newer Coolermaster hcc-001 has received some pretty good reviews and NewEgg has it now. If you plan to overclock your cpu, you probably ought to go with the above suggestion on the Alpha, which seems to be a top choice for oc'ing.

<< alpha 8045 is 35 w/o fan from newegg... >>

So, what kind of fan would I need to get to go with it?
