need a new hsf for my Athlon XP 1600+, which I plan to overclock to 1800+ and above speeds. Right now I'm running a Volcano 6Cu (the only one I could get my hands on for cheap and fast...) But now I need a better heatsink that cools faster and quieter. I heard the Alpha PAL8045 and the Thermalright SK6 were good, but I don't want those super-loud Delta fans (I don't want to drive myself nuts!!!). So I was wondering if anyone out there can suggest a solution for me. I was also wondering whether there were any Thermalright SK6 with a non-Delta fan and supporting speeds of 1800+ or above. I was thinking Alpha PAL8045 with Orix fan or SK6 with Sunon fan. Just I want a hsf that is quiet while still cooling well enough for overclocking.

Thanks in advance.

Both the 8045 ans sk6 support 80mm fan making those hsf cool better with less noise.

I have an sk-6 with the delta screamer and an xp1600+ running at 1533Mhz right now at stock voltages in an antec mid-tower case with a panaflo l1a in the front and 1 in the rear plus the psu fan and it runs at 36c and 40c under full load. I could not take the noise of the delta so I cut the power wires and spliced them into the power supply running at 7volts now I can hardly hear it and my temps went to 41c and 47c under full load.

If you want something quieter, definately go with the PAL8045. The sk6 isn't that great if it is equipped with anything other than a delta or higher. I wouldn't recommend putting an 80mm on the sk6 cuz it can weaken your clip. Also, you will see better performance with the same fan on a pal8045 than on a sk6 (80mm fan that is)
