k, ive got a 'b' core tbred 1700+. Right now im runnin at 2.0ghz and its just fine but i want a new hsf so i can overclock more but i want something quiet. i was thinking an alpha pal 8045 with a vantec stealth 80mm fan. i know it would be quiet but would it be enough to cool up to, and past 2.0ghz speeds? got any suggestions for quiet/effecient hsf's?

Get an SLK-800A or U or an SLK-900U. The SLK-800 is cheaper, lighter, easier to keep clean, doesn't require bolts (unless you get the U version), and most importantly cools better. Some have had good luck with the low-rpm/cfm/dBA fans like the stealth/Panaflo L1A/etc., but you're probably better off with a fan that pushes between 30-40CFM which will put in you the 25-30dBA range. Not loud in my opinion but not silent. Either that or get a variable speed fan that will allow you to tune airflow to your needs.

You can get an SLK-800 for cheap at SVC.com

I got myself a SLK -800 and a 92mm Panaflo 1A (dunon H or L but i think L) and it runs great. Lowered my temps by about 10 degrees from my Volcano 7 and TMD, although my Volcano 7 would probably have done ok.

The SLK-800 is probably more versatile than the Alpha 8045. Easier to install (dun have to remove mobo but it uses all 3 prongs and clip is tight), supports different size fans (60mm, 70mm, 80mm officially, you can rotate the fan and mount a 92mm too if you had to) and great clip design instead of screws to install fan (easier to change out fans and what not, also allows a rotated 92mm to fit). Also, keeping in mind a lot of the newer AMD mobos dun include mounting holes, so if you're planning to upgrade your mobo sometime soon to say a nforce 2, you might be out of luck w/ the Alpha 8045.

diff betewwn slk800 and slk800a is almsot nothing afaik

diff between slk800/slk800a and slk800u is that "u" version uses the mobo holes to mount just like alpha pal8045 and swiftech mcx462

i opted for the slk800, cuz i wnted clip (ezier to install/take off) over the alpha and swiftech
