well, a thermalright Sk6 with an 80 mm sunon mounted diagonally on it would provide some very fine cooling with minimal noise

alpha 8045 heatsink with a quiet fan may fit your needs best

I am using an SK6 on my 1800+ and it keeps it easily under 50C (usually 45C load) and this is with a quiet, low rpm YSTech 60mm fan.

I am using a alpha pal 6035 w/ys tech 26cfm. Not the best available today but seems pretty good for me still. My 1600+ overclocks to approx 1550mhz(stable).

sohcrates, I had a brief look at mounting a 80mm fan on my SK6 but it did not seem possible.
How can it be done (without the use of an adapter) as the high CFM 60mm fans are too loud for me.

Any pictures would be welcomed.

i don't have any pictures...though i'll see if i can find some for ya

it was the big thing to do (and posted about a lot on these forums). basically, you just put the fan on diagonally, and use the two clips like you would with a 60 mm fan. i KNOW it can be done....i'll see what i can find...

edit: i got this from another similar post:

"Basically all you do is put the 80mm fan on top of the SK6 turned 45-degrees so it sits on it like a diamond instead of square. The two clips on each side of the SK6 hold 2 of the diamond points onto the heatsink. (instead of the clips going down two of the sides of a 60mm fan)

<< is a volcano 6 any good? and about how much do those hsf cost? >>

not sure bout volcanos..i know they're much less expensive, but also don't provide quite the same cooling.

sk6's run around 30 - 40 bucks

if possible, get the alpha pal8045 with a quiet fan. That will probably be the most effective cooling-wise.

I agree too, the PAL8045 is a great heatsink especially since it works very well with a quiet fan.

Has anyone sucessfully mounted an 8045 on the Shuttle AK31? I wanted to get the Alpha, but ended up with somerhing different because the shuttle wasn't listed on Alpha's compatibility chart.

...if you aren't OCing, why not use the retail HSF? Works just fine on my dad's 1.4G XP, keeping it at no greater than 43ºC with Prime95, and sitting at a wonderful 32ºC idle (case temp around 25ºC).
