THinking about using a mobile 2400 for a HTPC, and I have an orginal Volcano HSF (plain Aluminum with 60mm fan).....just wondering if that would be enought for a mobile 2400? I think it was orginally for a P3 I had.....

I'm sorry, but I have to say this:

How could you possilbly be so cheap as to not be willing to spend $10 for a stock AMD HSF!???? You're crazy if you think a P3 cooler will keep a Mobile XP chip cool...it's asking for trouble. Think of it as a $10 insurance policy for your $300 rig.

Also, why would you buy a mobile chip if you're not going to overclock it? It makes no sense to me. Save yourself $10 and buy a retail 2500+ chip, and it will come with the stock cooler, saving you another $10.

Oh ok then that makes sense now. :)

I apologize if I came across a little harsh there. Just buy a new HSF, trust me, you don't want to fry your system over $10. :)

well, I cant find it anyways...so whats a good **quiet** hsf. I haven't got the case yet, but I am thinking about the Cooler Master Desktop Case (M-ATX), so I don't think a Zalman CUAL 7000 will work :)

You can't find a stock AMD HSF anywhere? As long as you can find something that's rated for 2200mhz or so on an AMD setup you should be fine. $10 should do the trick.
