HSF direction?

Probably a dumb ass question but... do HSF's always blow out (as opposed to blowing down towards the Processor)? I'm looking at a server here at work and this HSF blows down.

I think 95% of us blows down on it.. bring cool air to the heat and push it away..

I usually mount one on top to push down and mount one on the side to blow out to help carry the hot air away..

mgravy, it will depend on the heatsink design.

For almost all heat sinks the air flow would be more uniform across the heat sink if it's directed toward the sink.

How about on the Alpha PAL8045? Would that blow down??
