HSF ADVICE: fop32 (not 38) VS alpha pal6035 VS taisol VS etc...........

ok i gotta get rid of my crappy coolermaster hsf, but i dont know which one to get......
seems like the pal6035 is best, but i just dont know.......
a few things: plz dont talk about fop38, i cant live with the loud fan....
also, money is no major concern (under $50 that is), but that doesnt mean ill get the hedgehog cause its no better than the alpha (low pin count)
so......either:
fop32
alpha pal6035
taisol
super orb

one more note: i heard taisol is good but like 2 degrees warmer than alpha....i want the BEST thats not too loud, even if its twice as much for a few degrees........
just trying to avoid irrelevant responses 🙂 thx peeps

I'd go with the Alpha then. Mine put my temps 13C lower than what I was using before. I was using the Vantec Socket A before and getting around 59C, switching to an Alpha, I'm down to 46C, and I don't have the best of cases so I consider it really good. Also, I'm not using Artic Silver. 🙂

hmmmmmmmmm........any more ideas / suggestions about hsf's? (plz no random stuff like "articooler"; tell me WHY) thx 🙂

Forgot about another HSF from Taisol.

TaiSol CGK742092

It appears to be a very good HSF, you might also want to look into that. And according to them, it beats out the FOP38 using a smaller fan.

but man........judging by the size, it seems HUGE!!!! i mean, how on EARTH am i gonna fit that bad boy on my kt7???? man........almost looks like their upcoming "voodoo" hsf (no affiliation with 3dfx)

The CGK742 covers the entire socket so they needed to cut a cam box into the heatsink to make it fit. Without the little cut-out, this heatsink wouldn't sit flat against the die of the processor and you would probably end up with a chipped core. The base of this heatsink is larger than your average cooler so you might want to make sure it fits before you buy it. I can tell you for sure it fits on the Asus A7V, Transcend TS-AKT4, and DFI's AK74-EC as I tested it out myself.

what do ya think?

Yea, the bigger Taisol, the other Taisol, couldn't fit the KT7 I heard, and this one is suppose to be the same size.

Taisol Socket A Coolers

They have the different ones, looks like the Voodoo one is almost the same except with the black Delta fan?

read my edited post right above your last one........tell me what ya think

ALSO, im going to sleep now, post tommorow (11/4/00) at ~8am eastern..... 🙂

I'm not sure. I'd have to see one for myself to actually check, but if I'm correct, it won't fit on the KT7 because of the location of the capacitors.

So, the big question is what other Socket A boards will this big boy (CGK742092) fit on?

ABIT KT7-RAID
MSI
Others?

It's also not on AMD's approved list yet. On the other hand, it's not yet available yet. Maybe that's what they are waiting on before letting it go on sale.

I sent an e-mail off to TaiSol tonight and we'll see what we get back next week...

hmmmmm..........not on sale yet? well then.......i gotta get mine ASAP (i cant wait any longer to OC that duron.....take it at LEAST to 750 @1.6V 🙂 guess its all about the alpha then......

You can still buy the other TaiSol products like the 733 and 734. Just not the 742 yet. Go to their web site and follow the link to some reviews.
