need a cheap but relatively quiet heat sink that will handle a Duron 900(may be overclocked in the future). Case space is limited as well, so a low profile may be important. Ideas?
A quiet HSF that doesn't cost too much is the Taisol 760092. It performs well and could easily take you into the overclocking realm. It retails for less than $40 shipped. If that is still too much for you, you can get a cheap Cooler Master that probably won't make too much noise, but it won't perform as well either. For the Taisol, check Cooler Guys and for the Cooler Master look at Newegg and pay particular attention to the DP5-6I31A HSF for $13 shipped.
I just switched from the Taisol to the Swiftech 370 and while it isn't as quiet as the Taisol, the cooling performance was improved (almost 5F drop in idle CPU temp). It ships for about $30 wo/a fan, but you can add whatever fan you want. I also really appreciate the clamp mechanism (not a chance of crushing my proc). Good luck with your future overclocking...
I like the TaiSol coolers, Large, sturdy heatsinks with good clips, and quiet on top of that. If noise is not an issue, the OCZ gladiators are pretty cheap, and good performers.
