HS/Fan problem - temp monitoring software ? too

I opened up my newly put-together PC last night, and to my huge surprise, the fan on my Zalman HS/Fan (on my new Pentium 2.4C @3ghz) isn't moving!

If I give it a push with my finger, the fan starts up and stays on, but why wouldn't it start on its own!?!

Amazingly, the chip seems to be ok - I've mostly just run Winamp on it, though I did play a bit of MOH:AA Spearhead too.

Also, is there anything more basic that MBM to monitor system temps and/or fan speeds?

Is it hooked up directly to the motherboard with some temp stuff built into it to control it? Try hooking straight into a molex connector using an adapter if need be.

it is plugged into the mobo with a little 3 pin connector..

For now I am just leaving the side panel off and manually giving the fan a boost when I turn the cpu on...I am just thankful and somewhat amazed the cpu is ok!
