HS Fan Orientation Question(POLL)

How do you guys have your fans pointed on your HSF. Do you have it taking the hot air off? Blowing cool air on? Which is better? To me it makes more sense to blow the hot air off but that's just me. I just want your opinions on which is best. Thanks....

On the rigs I air cool, I draw the air off the cpu. Always have, my logic, for what its worth, is why blow all the hot air all over the board, best to get it out in open air where an exhaust fan can grab it.

most of the time it's air blowing into the heatsink, but Alpha is the exception to the rule, all alpha suck the heat off the heatsink.

when i would run my case with a fan on the side i found it better to make the fan blow away
but it also varies a little between different heatsink

most the time tho blowing toward the heatsink is best tho

Most all shrouded heatsinks work better drawing air away from the heatsink. Some overclockers want to keep the mainboard as cool as possible, and drawing air away from the heatsink also cools the board.

Some heatsinks work like crap in rreverse mode, while some work better. My take on it is that if you don't have heat issues with the motherboard, and you don't have a shrouded heatsink, they you should try it blowing onto the heatsink. You could slo run a test, in each configuration to see which suits you best.

go outside and run around until you are hot.

Come inside and sit behind a fan.

Now sit in front of the fan.

Which way cooled you off more ?

Depends... you would have to make a shroud for yourself for it to be a good test. 😉

My SLK-800A cools 4*C cooler with it sucking air, thats alot. It has to do with the way air flows through your case on which way cools better.
