HS / Fan for Socket 939 Althon64 4000

Hey,

My current stock AMD (came with my retail Athlon64 4000+ San Diego) fan has been making some very odd noises over the past week (despite cleaning) and I believe that it is on its final leg.

Do you guys have any suggestions on a good replacement heat sink / fan combo for the CPU to replace the AMD stock HS/Fan? I prefer to keep it around < $35 (after shipping). It will go onto a Gigabyte KNSUltra-939 (nForce 3 Ultra) in a Lian-Li Lancool K7B. I will not be overclocking it.

I do not want to spend much money on it, since I plan on upgrading once AMD Socket AM3 becomes mainstream and I doubt current heatsinks will work on that socket.

I was looking at the ThermalTake Golden Orb 2.

Thoughts?

thermalright XP-90 with any 80/92mm fan of your choice.

worked well for my opteron 170 @ 2.5Ghz.

edit: the golden orb 2 is a good choice as well, but for me, it was a pain to install compared to the XP90.

I think AM3 will use the same type of CPU heatsink mounting mechanism.

On the topic of what heatsink you should get...
For silence, you get a Scythe Ninja. Mount some fans close to it and no fans directly on it. My X2 4200+ with no CnQ runs at 33C idle and 49C load.
For cheap, decent cooling, you get a Cooler Master HyperTX, Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro, or a Thermalright like previously mentioned.

The efficacy of tower coolers depends heavily on your overall airflow setup.
