ummm wow. those are some dirty shots and really bad refs.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highs...-no-calls-basketball-game-goes-133731387.html

Connell (Wash.) High's Cole Vanderbilt was a relative unknown in the basketball world, but all that changed two days ago, when a viral YouTube video turned him into one of the most hated players in Washington.

As the Tri-City Herald reported, Vanderbilt turned into public enemy number one when Michael Christenson decided to film a game between Connell and Highland (Wash.) High to prove to parents at Highland that the basketball league needed better officials.

As it turns out, the clip did more than just spotlight an officiating problem; it also made seniors Cole Vanderbilt and teammate Kennan VanHollebeke look like the dirtiest players on the court.

Someone apparently didn't appreciate the fouls -- the fifth foul is definitely of the flagrant variety -- because before anyone could blink, the video had gone viral, with one website proclaiming Vanderbilt to be "the dirtiest basketball player in America."

While Christenson certainly proved his point with the video, what he didn't expect was the outcry on YouTube from commenters who viewed the clip. The negative and sometimes hurtful responses to the fouls forced Vanderbilt's coaches and family to go into damage-control mode.

"[Cole Vanderbilt] a tough kid, but those that know him know he's a teddy bear," Connell coach Oscar Garza told the Tri-City Herald. "My 7-year-old son loves him and lights up when he's around. But on (YouTube) he's the world's meanest, ugliest kid. It's not fair, but I just want him to know his teammates and coaches are behind him."

Even though you could probably make a case that most of the fouls, while aggressive in nature, weren't of the flagrant variety, there's no doubting the fifth foul is definitely the kind of bushleague garbage that should get you kicked out of a game.

It's clear from the way Vanderbilt goes after the Highland player that he had no intention of going for the ball; he was merely trying to make sure the player never had a chance to make it to the hoop.

2 of the 5 fouls looked to be caused by a different player...

the 5th is definitely a flagrant foul...

2 of them he looks like a lumbering ox who couldnt stop in time and his momentum carried him forward... foul? yes... flagrant? dunno

none of them were flagrant...

most weren't even close. the one where the kid falls hard is just unfortunate physics. little kid in the air vs. a big kid and a little contact. people seem blinded by the fact that the kid fell hard and could have gotten hurt. the rest of the calls were no where near flagrant, which hurts the video poster's credibility

He's no basketball player - he's a football lineman playing basketball as a thug.

Wow, he must be playing football. He knocks down the other player, smiles, and walks away.

uhh, the fifth foul shown you can see is flagrant. He purposefuly sticks his hand on the kids face as he's jumping up for the layup. The kid tries to move his head away and the asshole moves his hand to follow the kid. Never once moved his hand for the ball. The push was flagrant and bushleague too. The others were just really bad fouls by unskilled idiots that should have fouled out by then. Those refs need to go and the kid should have been kicked out of the game for that fifth foul he pulled.

In most of those fouls, the players committing the fouls aren't even trying to make a play on the ball but rather the opposing player. That's the very definition of flagrant - using excessive violence that could cause injury.

#5 was the only one that I thought, "What an asshole." The others were just him (#34) being a bully and it appears each were called correctly as fouls. #2 I guess was more about the other guy wrapping him up on the baseline and being a little rough.

Not sure why they called the video viral, anyway. 33k views? Yawn. Wake me when it hits a million.

If you can't see that in the fifth one he blatantly clotheslined the kid and wasn't even trying to go for the ball, then you are either blind or retarded.

most of those were a kid not going after the ball and not knowing how to really block.

#5 should have gotten him thrown out after the rest of the fouls.

as i said terrible refs and dirty players.

Damn bullies; that fifth one was dangerous and should have been a flagrant. What's with all the fatass Eagles?

theres no clothesline!! my god people. it was an intentional foul, yes. he reaches for the ball, which was moving. he's obviously not very coordinated so he just sticks his fat arm out. the other smaller kid jumps. the fat kid isn't aiming for the kids head...physics takes care of the rest. go watch some videos where basketball players get flipped like that. it doesn't take much contact...

it's all terrible basketball though and shouldn't really happen anyway. but it's blown way out of proportion

edit: there's a difference between stupid/dangerous and malicious. I don't see those plays as malicious

Pretty much how it looks. Maybe he's actually a nice kid IRL (if family and coach are to be believed). And maybe he's decent on a football field or something. He's clearly a lumbering, talentless, oafish thug on a basketball court.

Those refs need an @ss kicking.

I'm not encouraging it, but would love to see one take a shot to the chops just to yell "that's a hold!"

I'd have to disagree for the simple fact that #34 has a shit-eating grin on his face while getting ready for the free throw attempt.

Uh no. He never reached for the ball. He never takes his eyes off the other players face as he reaches his hand into that players face. Watch it again as I just did. The ball moves out away from the player as he jumps in for a layup and not ONCE did Mr. Fatass move his eyes to track the ball, let alone move his hand to go after the ball. He just reaches straight at the other players face. When the other player moves his head away as his forward momentum carries him forward the hand reaching for his face becomes a clothesline. You are seriously blind if you can not see that or read the facial expression on Mr. Fatass as he is doing it.

And as blurredvision says, he has a shit eating grin on his face afterwards cause he knew exactly what he did and didn't get caught doing it.

Yeah this, plus he makes no move to go towards and wrap up the player which is what most players do when just trying to grab and do an intentional.
