I used a program called aspichk.exe to check what aspi stuff I have installed. I have WNASPI32.dll installed the version is 4.60. The other 3 files aren't installed. AND after trying a few things, with updating/removing different aspi files in hopes of fixing my burner problems I get 2 errors at startup. 1 says something about me having no scsi adapters installed. The other says something about some sort of aspi layer missing... Heres some system info for ya:

OS=Win2k with SP1, and all critical updates installd.
Burner=Plextor 8/4/32A IDE
Mobo=Abit KT7A-Raid
Software that I am trying to get working:
Nero 5.0
Musicmatch jukebox 6.0
Plextor direct CD
adaptec easy cd creator 4.something
and plextor manager 2000.

Anyone able to help me out or got anything that I could try I would greatly appreciate it!! 🙂 TIA

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but did you read the description for aspi32.exe ver 4.60. I've copied it from adaptec site for your attention!

Description:
ASPI layer version 4.60 (1021), for Windows 9x and Windows NT. This includes updates to the following files: WINASPI.DLL, WNASPI32.DLL, APIX.VXD, ASPIENUM.VXD, ASPI32.SYS, and WOWPOST.EXE. Simply execute ASPI32.EXE to install/upgrade the ASPI drivers.
Caution:
Do NOT install ASPI32.EXE with Windows 2000, Windows ME, Easy CD Creator 4.x, or with Windows Media Player 7.0. If you have one of these applications (or OS), you will be using a different aspi layer that will conflict with the one provided in this file.

hmm.. I've been using the 4.60.1021 drivers for a while under Win2k Pro, WinME, Win98SE, with Easy CD Creator 3.5, 4, 5, Nero 5, Fireburner, and EAC. It's been running fine. Maybe Adaptec is BSing?

I KNOW! 🙁 I honestly don't know how it got there. 😉 sounds ubeleiveable but its true. All I did was install nero, and all my other software.. I also downloaded that check problem. Then I had all 4 files installed and it said everything was good. So I was like cool!! So I go to run musicmatch, it only rips at 1x analog, same problem I had before. Go to use nero, it crashes everytime like before. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO... Whaaa! 🙁 Would it help just reinstalling win2k over this current installation??

Ok, I figured since I allready had one bad file I might as well try all of them. I downloaded the 4.60s to get rid of that dumb error at the beginning. I installed all 4 files just fine, and that little util confirms it. BUT now nero, musicmatch, they still all don't work. I'm going to try reinstalling them right now, but still I don't know what else to try.

Pliotron me too. I saw that warning message after I had already installed ASPI 4.60 in Win2K, and while I've only used Nero and EAC, I haven't had any problems. I'm sure they have a reason for putting it there, but what I wanted to know is if we aren't supposed to use that ASPI layer what are we supposed to use?

Also using 4.60 (forced) .. with Tekram U2W & Plex burner/reader. Currently have W2K/WinME dual .. never had a prob. Burn with Nero, CDRWin, Fireburner, DiscDupe (my early-8X burner is not CloneCD compatible).

You can always delete the files individually .. but that shouldn't be necessary.

Can somebody drop a link to the Adaptec warning? Like to read for myself. Gracias.

😱😀:|🙁:Q🙂😉😛😎:disgust::frown:😕

That's what I have to say to that warning.

I dunno what version it is...but I have an ASPI32.EXE

For Win2k, I installed Easy CD Creator 4.02d, then CDRWin 3.8D. When I used CDRWin I got an ASPI error, so I installed ASPI32.EXE and it when away.

All my Stuff is IDE though...so maybe that's why?

nero doesn't need the aspi layer, that i know of... if you have aspichk, you might have something else called aspi installer, and a remover. remove your aspi, get the latest, and reinstall.
