Bill HR4437 (Immigration Reforms) passed the second hurdle last week, but really only affects gang members, pedophiles and terrorists. the res of the Bill was de-fanged, and still allows for Jus Solis (Citizenship by Birth). It also allows certain groups to go on with business as usual (Mexicans are exempted from Automatic Detention/Removal) provided they don't drink and drive, beat their wives, join a gang, buy a gun, join a terrorist organization or have sex with children.

This bill is a joke. The laws are already on the books (though not explicitly listed, which gives more leeway), and are just not being enforced. 1 Felony of ANY kind under the current law is already punishable by Formal Deportation under most circumstances.

About the only thing that this bill does is to make the obtaining of a SSN by fraud a Deportable offense, and denies Residency and future citizenship for that activity, (as well as the aforementioned activities.)

Writing a law is meangingless if you arent going to enforce it anyways.
Even when they catch people running across the border sometimes they give them a citation and let them go. wtf is with that? Yeah you can expect them to show up in court for deportation.

The only way to really affect this is to build a huge wall on our southern border and patrol it with national guard.

One of these days we are going to wake up to a nuclear, chemical, or biological attack that kills thousands and maybe even millions. Later we will find it they simply walked across our sourthern border to do this deed.

At that point one has to ask how fast can the military stop the revolt of the citizens of this country? Or will they join in on bringing DC down?

How does the bill punish employers who hire undocumented workers? Any special provisions to sanction employers who pocket the income tax they withhold from undocumented workers? Any super penalties on employers who don't pay payroll taxes on behalf of their undocumented workers? A reasonable bill to prevent illegal immigration would attack the root of the problem, not simply nip at the branchs.

Ah yes. The neo-con dilemma. How to get more foreign workers into America to help their business buddies versus how to keep foreigners out of America to help their conservatve constituency.

ironwing,

This bill allows for criminal prosecution against employers where gross negligence, or breaking the law is concerned, where now it is administrative/Civil.

I agree that it is not a truly serious Bill. If they wanted to end illegals, they should charge the Immigrant violating the hiring laws be charged as a criminal. That would fix that. The minute that you make accepting public funds without legal Immigrant status a crime, that would end that. The minute you eliminate Jus Solis for Citizenship for illegals, you eliminate the drive for have children in this country for the WIC nd Welfare benefits.

This Bill is a sham to placate the more rabid members of Congress, nothing more....
