I started sending out my resume about a month ago and finally got a hit. There was a brief/surprise initial phone screening by the HR recruiter. It went fine since she passed on my info to the person actually able to make a decision.

The 'hirer' is from a different state but informed me he would be just a couple hours away on Monday for an official interview. I informed him that I had an obligation that couldn't be rescheduled but was available any other day/time that week. He said him and another manager would just do the interview by phone.

Is that the job's death-knell? Maybe that will be when I inform them my current employer contracts-in a 45 day notice period. :\

If that was enough to cost me the job, I wouldn't want the job anyway.

If they're going to pass on you and your skill set because of a prior engagement that cannot be rescheduled, then you probably don't want to work there anyway.

Uh, no, why would they bother a phone interview if they were already uninterested?

The 45 day thing might ding you. It depends on how soon they need someone.

Yup, the beautiful being has it in boilerplate on every client file we open. I can probably get it cut to two week or I may be told to leave on the spot with just enough time to hand the files over to my supervisor.

I'd like to stay until July 5th anyway since I have a large bonus due at the end of June. If I get fired it's mine, if I leave I probably won't get it.

I am an attorney and have a court hearing but unfortunately judges won't schedule around interviews. :D I hope that the reason actually holds in my favor.

Ah well that changes things. For a high end job such as that, I'm sure they'd be understanding about not being able to interview that day.

you just blew my mind.

Every other time someone on ATOT has used this excuse it was because they had a vacation planned or a WoW raid. You actually had a legit excuse.

BTW, what's your number? I like to have a few lawyers' phone numbers in my phone......just in case.
