The bill was passed overwhelmingly by both D and R. What do ya'll think? Restriction of 1st Amendment or safety for Presidental candidates?

IMO the people should have the right to protest peacefully anywhere, anytime. Government for the people, by the people.

1752 as ammended by 347 seems to have specific locale stated. I think there are four of them...

I don't have an issue with the bill either unless the USSS names everywhere as a special place etc...

It's bad law, it's unconstitutional and it should be overturned.

The types of events and individuals warranting Secret Service protection have grown exponentially since the law was enacted in 1971. Today, any occasion that is officially defined as a National Special Security Event calls for Secret Service protection. NSSE’s can include basketball championships, concerts, and the Winter Olympics, which have nothing whatsoever to do with government business, official functions, or improving public grounds. Every Super Bowl since 9/11 has been declared an NSSE.

Is that not accurate?

Not just a matter of free speech. It's written loosely enough to outright arrest all undesirables in those security zones.

Here's an earlier thread on it.

It could even be a precursor to another stimulus package... building prisons... We could put lots of folks to work in the construction of prisons industry if we can only create the need. And, don't you think we can create a vast need if we can lock up tons and tons of these protestants... er... protesters not to mention the folks on a visit to DC to see the various buildings...

I wonder how the liberals got this past the conservatives... probably they figure only liberals protest and if they lose their citizenship they can't vote... brilliant... absolutely brilliant...

Overbroad statements aren't usually helpful. I don't think you really mean "anywhere, anytime".

If it's a violation of free speech, I am sure the "strict constructionist" supreme court will overturn it. Nothing to worry about, right?

So long as there are no pubic hairs on it, I can't see the SC having any (universal) problem with it.
