i'm looking for a controller that supports ata100 and also does raid0.
will this one be ok. or does it have issues.
also. should i just buy the mobo with it built on?
Or, is buying Promise's controller even better?
Please advise

I have the HPT-370 built onboard my ABIT KT7 RAID and I'm happy with it. However, if I was to get a stand-alone controller, I would get the Promise ATA-100 controller since I heard there is alot less compatibility problems and they performance is a bit better.

HPT-370 on my rig runs like a rocket. I get almost 23000, so says SiSoft Sandra, on my WD 7200/ATA 100 HDDs.

There is one issue. If your HDDs have Maxtor's or Western Digital's formatting utilities on them, you probably won't get the '370 to work. I had transplanted my HDDs and could not get them in operation until I removed WD's EZ Drive. Once I removed EZ Drive, the WDs blazed away without a hitch.

I have no opinion on other ATA 100 controllers.

Look no further than the Promise FastTrack 100 raid card. I have (2) of them. 🙂

promise fasttrack, stay away from Crapoint controllers, just way too buggy and incompatible with too many things

Well, I keep hearing the Highpoints are crap, but everyone has just had problems with their ATA66 controllers. I have had no trouble at all running RAID 0 with my 75GXP's and Win2K. I keep asking to har from people that have had trouble with the ATA100 Highpoints, but I have seen no issues yet.

are you say the promise is carp or the highpoint is crap?

figure i'll spend an extra 10 or 15 dollars and the the promise.

is pricewatch the best place to get it. they got the best price?

OK. the Fasttrk is more expensive that i thought.
$74 dang. is it worth it.
Or is buying a mobo with it already built on even better?
