HPT370 on Epox 8k7a+ - how do I boot from RAID?

I'm having trouble getting my hard drive to boot from the raid channels on my epox 8k7a+. I'm just using a single drive, so I just want extra IDE channels from the raid chip. I loaded the drivers when I installed win2k (version v1.0.3b downloaded from highpoint's site. The supplied disk didn't seem to work for either win 2k or 98. I didn't use newer drivers because they don't support atapi devices.) I checked at startup, and the drive is recgnized by the 370 and set as the boot device. I changed the boot sequence in the bios to start with scsi. However, my computer hangs on "verifying DMI pool data" and eventually asks to boot from a cd. THe default setting in the raid bios seems to be UDMA 5 for the hard drive, but I have tried other settings. The drive is an IBM 60gxp 40 gig model.
Now, the reason I want to put the hard drive on the raid channel is that I also have a lite-on 24x burner and a pioneer 106s dvd drive. Right now I have the HDD on primary master, the cdr on secondary master, and the dvd on primary master of the raid card. Despite the fact that the raid card recognizes the dvd drive, and has it set at UDMA 4 (which it won't let me change), I get choppy dvd playback. If I switch the dvd drive to secondary master on the regular IDE channels, I get smooth playback with DMA enabled. So, if there is some other way to get the DVD drive to work on the raid channel, that would work for me as well. I assume that putting the cdr on that channel would decrease it's performance as well, so I don't want to do that. Any suggestions?
