Hello out there,

I want to setup a fast RAID5 Array and saw that Highpoint offers a new BIOS that make it possible on a RocketRAID404 controler...

I don't find any benches using google...

Is here a user with the Highpoint RocketRAID404 oder HPT374 that uses RAID5?

I'm interesed in benches and CPU loads using RAID5 :)

Kind regards

I have no info for you on the highpoint controller. I recently built a raid 5 array and did some research. The Highpoint card is software based raid, if you're concerned with performance you should consider a hardware based controller. Think it was storagereview.com that did a review of 4 moderately priced controllers, from memory the Promise sx4000 did a fine job and half the cost of the best card (Adaptec 2400a). I used the Adaptec controller with 4 x WD 250JBs, have never done any performance tests on it though. If you're into ebay they have Promise and Adaptec controllers for sale from time to time. I bought a brand new Adaptec controller for just under 200.

By the way, a nice budget case for a 5-drive RAID is the Antec SLK3700 for about $65 +15 from newegg. It has a 5-drive bay with spacing between each drive, the drives are mounted with grommets for lower noise, and you can mount a 120mm fan directly in front of the drive bay for coolring (slowed with a fanmate if you care about noise). Your OS drive can go in a 5.25" bay or one of the 2 - 3.5" external bays.

@GGabus:

I use currently a Promise SX6000 and a 3Ware Array, but the RAID5 Speed isn't so exiciting :(
