HP's Backup Utility and Preloaded Software

I got an HP dv2000t back in September. I didn't really clean up the junk software or anything. I used the preloaded anti-virus trials, etc. The 80GB hdd came with 2 partitions: a C: (main drive) that's 61.8GB, and a D: (HP_RECOVERY) that's 11.6GB.

Now I have some questions.
1. Has anyone used the (D🙂HP_RECOVERY? What is it for? Is it worth having? Or is it better to dump the recovery stuff and make it into 1 big partition?
2. There's a LOT of excess programs pre-installed (HP Rhapsody, Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7, Viewpoint, etc.). Are they worth having or are there better alternatives?
3. Are there any programs that start up at login that don't do anything but use up ram/processing power?
4. I may buy a larger internal drive to replace the 80gb one. Is there anything HP has preloaded that I should transfer over to the newer drive?

I understand the post may be somewhat vague but I don't know what else I should add. If you don't think it's possible for you to post a constructive response, tell me what you'd like me to add.

TIA

The recovery partition is used if your Windows install on your C drive were to get screwed up. You would use that and it would install Windows and I believe all the crap software again just like the day you got it. It will get rid of all your documents and anything else you've installed since you got it. If you don't have a Windows XP cd though to go with the PC I would keep that partition. As for the preinstalled software, thats really up to you to decide. If you use it I would keep it, if you dont use it and dont think you ever will get rid of it. I'm sure a lot of the HP specific things could be downloaded from there site again, but I'm not sure.

To answer question #3, yes, I'm betting there are a lot of things set to run on startup that you don't need. Search for Autoruns on google, and it can be downloaded from Microsoft's site. It will tell you EVERYTHING that is starting when you turn on you computer. You can turn a lot of these off, just be careful. Search the process name in google, find out what it does, and if you don't need it, uncheck it. If your not sure what it does though, I would leave it alone just be to safe

even i recently bought an hp laptop. iv kept the hprecovery and removed almost all of the other. if u dont think u r going to need it, remove it 🙂
