HPET included in the new Z77 & Z87 mbs?

I'm curious if some of you Z77 & Z87 motherboard owners have the High Precession Event Timer option in your bios'

Yes. An older Gigabyte P45 board had the options of 32-bit HPET, 64-bit HPET, or disable. My Gigabyte Z77 board only has HPET enable/disable as options.

Since Intel moved from a Northbridge + ICH chipset pair, to simply a single glorified ICH called a PCH, the newest is Z87. Previous ones were Z77, Z68, etc.

If it mattered with 3/4-series+ICH, it will matter now. If it didn't matter then, it won't now, either. It's entirely dependent upon software that works better or worse with it on or off.

How so, and what for? You seem to expect us to know some contextual information about your usage/issues with HPET, and we don't have that. FI, it's been universally great, on Linux, to get precise results for A/V recording and DBMS query profiling.

HPET is a new timer system, designed to be simple (relatively), high speed, and operate at higher precision and accuracy than the software accessing it can. Everything else is based on OS, drivers, and programs, that either directly support it, or make use of driver/OS facilities that support it.

Windows, especially, has had issues with some motherboard implementations of HPET. However, Linux would work fine with it on the same boards--HPET itself wasn't what needed fixing (Windows has poorly implemented enough features over the years, like ACPI, that they can't get a pass on that, even if the mobo maker didn't perfectly implement the spec on their boards).
