Hi all! I am a law student and need to buy a new laptop. What do you think of this HP config?

HP extended service plans 3-year HP Express Repair extended service plan

My main questions concern the screen. This one is the most expensive (and sadly i assumed it was the best) Is this true?

Plus, there is a $100 rebate as well.

Additionally, I have heard from some people that HPs are frequently messed up on delivery or shortly thereafter...is this true or are they reliable? Thanks

One more thing (Sorry)...what do y'all think of the 3-year HP Accidental Damage Protection with Express Repair extended service plan for HP Pavilion and Presario notebook PCs $299.99...is it a rip off or is it smart?

I am looking to make a decision this weekend so any response/opinions would be very cool. THANKS SO MUCH!

I've had a ZT3000 for about 6 months, and am happy with it.

Mine has the 1.5GHz Pentium-M, 512MB, 60GB drive, DVD/CD burner, etc, with WXGA (1280x800) screen. At that resolution everything is already plenty small... I wouldn't want the 1920x1200.

The LCD panel on mine is quite nice, but HP -- like most manufacturers -- switches LCD panel vendors occasionally, due to price fluctuations or supply issues. If I recall correctly, the panel I got is one of the better thought of models, but I don't recall the specifics. I wouldn't assume that the WUXGA panel that you listed is the highest-quality choice. It's higher resolution but that doesn't mean that contrast, ghosting, etc, will be superior to the other panels.

I suggest that your check out x1000forums.com. The ZT3000 series is the same as the Compaq X1000 series, with the only difference being the color of the case.
