Hey folks,

I was thinking of getting a HP ZR2740W monitor that would be matched with a Sapphire 7970 OC video card. It looks like some very good deals can be found on that monitor.

One potential issue is that the HP ZR2740W only accepts it native input of 2560x1440 and 720p/480p. I don't think this will be an issue for me, as I presume a 7970 should be sufficient to run pretty much anything at that resolution? I realize that some games may struggle maxed out a 7970 at that resolution, but I presume nothing would be unplayable if you dialed back settings and AA? Lots of sites have benchmarks at 2560x1440 maxed out but few show how it scales if you need to dial things down.

Anyone happen to have experience with this monitor and any opinions?

Hey I have ZR30W, and for a while I was running a single 7950, which did fine for most games at mid to high settings. You should be fine as long as you don't expect AA or max settings.

I'm running a 680 the equivalent of the 7970, this is at 1440p, and it plays any game out as of writing excellently with the exception of AA here and there. And especially if you're willing to dial a setting or 2 I'd say go for it.

Went from 1080P to 1440P with a 7950 @ 1080MHz. Initially was a bit worried I might have to upgrade my GPU before 20nm but so far I can play all my games with high settings or better.

Edit: I'm thinking the next round of AAA game titles, Witcher 3 for example, will potentially require 'performance' settings rather than high. However, even if that is the case I'm going to try to hold out for 20nm.
