HP ZR24w settings?

Just hooked up my new HP ZR24w and so far so good, haven't found any defects and out of the box the colors look great but I did take the Brightness down to about 15. The Whites are still a little too piercing for me so I'm looking to fine tune it.

I'm not doing any photo editing so I'm not looking to professionally calibrate and I don't want to spend any money on that. I did try a setting from the TFT Central and it looked like "CRAP". Right now, all the RGB's are at 255 "Gain" and 128 "Black Level" (the default) with the 6500k Out-Of-Box setting.

For others with this monitor, what are your settings?

Brightness, Contrast, RGB's?

Bright: 20
Cont: 80
R: 254
G: 255
B: 242

Eyeball calibrated to a sheet of bright white paper in a CCFL lit room. This is about as accurate as I can get for a combination of normal Photoshop work and gaming. If I match it to my printer, things are a bit darker than I'd like. Hues and midtones seem to match though.

If I may ask, is the ZR24w the fastest of the 16:10 aspect 24" IPS panels (5ms GTG per Prad.de) compared with the Dell U2410 (7ms) ?

I play shooters...may need to give my BenQ to my wife for work, which gives me the opportunity to upgrade to IPS. If neither IPS panels are fast enough for games like BFBC2 however, I may just keep my screen.

Compared with all the crappy TNs out there, I actually think my 2yr old V2400W is in the top 2 best TNs color-wise.

I will let you know how it games after this weekend. I haven't hooked mine up to my regular system yet but I am a gamer and will test it on BF2 BC, Painkiller, Crysis & Oblivion.

With overdrive enabled, the ZR24w has a maximum response time of approx 9ms or less (measured) and is considered one of the best gaming panels due to low input lag (1 frame or 16ms on average). It is visually comparable with 2-3ms TN panels in terms of pixel smearing. There is not ghosting or visible overdrive artifacts on the ZR24w.

Brightness: 7
Contrast: 80
6500K - sRGB (Stock)

* Nvidia Control Panel Gamma: +0.92 (lowered from +1.0)

The "Gamma" makes all the difference in getting the colors to "Pop" and to control the washed-out and harsh Whites, even at a Brightness of 7.

I was using a lowered Gamma setting on my LG227WTG and that was the difference maker too. I highly recommend trying a lower Gamma setting for those who still think their LCD is too bright or harsh. The HP doesn't have any Gamma setting but the Nvidia Control Panel works just fine at least on the desktop where it counts. It might mess with some photo editors but I think it's a much better desktop experience.
