Does anybody know anything about this 20" LCD monitor (panel type, etc.)? I can't find anything here on Anandtech or anywhere else. I just came back from Circuit City and this was the best looking 20" or 22" I saw in the store. At $279, the price seemed good, too. I'm just wondering if it was just a fluke that this looked better to my eyes than the Samsung 206bw and everything else they had... I'm looking for a 20/22 LCD for under $300 and so far, this is at the top of my list.

Well, I found out why there is hardly any information available on this monitor. Apparently it just came out. Since all of the monitors at Circuit City were hooked up to the same computer with VGA, it seems like a terrible way to differentiate between monitors. I?m hoping someone here has seen the HP W2007 somewhere else that might provide a better opportunity to judge its picture quality. If it?s the same TN panel as the Samsung 206BW (which I would rate the second best looking of the bunch at CC), it seems more likely that the differences in picture quality may be in the way they jury rigged all of these monitors up to the same VGA feed, right?

Does no one know what kind of panel this is?

At this point, I would also find it helpful if anyone has seen it in a store to compare it to other monitors. I am having a hard time determining if it really looks better than the Samsung 206BW or if it was just the setup in CC. They do such a terrible job with connecting monitors that the HP might look ok because it's the only one that's set up close to correct...

So logic would dictate that it would be about the same picture quality given the same setup and settings as the Samsung 206BW, right?

I tried both the Samsung and the HP. So far the HP is faring a little better. Here is a quick analysis

1) Both HP and Samsung monitors look very good. I'm a little more partial towards towards the Samsung.
2) Samsung caused a shadowing effect that I could see after sitting in front of the monitor after a while. I returned that
3) 2nd samsung caused a buzz in certain profiles (they have all these movies, photos, games, text profiles)
4) HP has a well indented based, so after using your keyboard you can push it in there
5) I cannot for the life of me get the NVIDIA and HP monitor to display 1680x1050 on the DVI port. I have tried everything including adding that as a custom resolution but the screen always goes blank. I suspect its the HP driver. It works on VGA
6) Whatever you do, if you are using a KVM with your setup...make sure you have a good KVM and good VGA cables. This is very very important otherwise you will your text starting to ghost. The lower end cables just dont seem to be able to handle higher resolutions. I didnt believe either until I used the cable from my old monitor to see if the ghosting went away and it pretty much reduced noticeably.
7) HP has speakers built in which is nice because it reduces the clutter on your desk
8) Cable management. Samsung has a nice cable management system at the back which groups all your cables for a cleaner finish, the HP doesnt have this so you can see your cables hanging off the back if you are looking at the monitor head on.
9) Both of them are TN displays, so the off angle viewing isnt the best and if you are doing work which requires attention to color detail (or spending lots of time in front of the computer) you might want to look at other options. (Just my opinion).

Last note: I havent decided whether I want to keep this or not yet. I might take the 15% hit and return the monitor mainly because of #9.

SPS, if you have any questions you can email me...I have been going through the Samsung and HP over the last few weeks and would be glad to share my experience.
