I have several HP Vectra VL6 Series 7 minitowers, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to get the MB to run a processor faster than a Celeron 366 (the highest speed available via jumper on the board). I believe the board uses the 440LX chipset. HP's website is fairly worthless when it comes to providing real technical info, so I figured I'd see if anyone else has upgraded one to make it run faster. Thanks.

have you tried to install a faster cpu? there's a chance that the board will recognize the new chip, even if it hasn't the needed multiplyer settings. probably it will report with a funny name. e.g. a friend has an _old_ bx and installed a cel2 in it - it thinks it's a p3... whatever

Thanks Bacteria, no luck here. Just tried to put a Celeron 366 (Slot1) into the board and it freezes while booting into WinME. I can't even get into the bios setup, though it does recognize the processor (It thinks it's Pentium Pro 366). I don't have a faster 66Mhz FSB processor lying around, and I don't want to invest in a Slocket and PPGA Celeron just to find out it doesn't work.

I assume the 440LX chipset recognizes Celeron processors...am I wrong in that assumption?

I may dump WinME and load Win2K later this week and see if that helps...though I doubt it. Be worth it just to get rid of ME (Which I believe may be the spawn of Satan himself).

Any other ideas???

Thanks

PS - I did flash the bios to the latest from HP's website - didn't help either.
