HP USB Printer difficulties

Ok, my girlfriend recently bought a new HP printer, the uh.....Photosmart 7350. It is a USB only printer. I had it working at first, after playing with the port settings for a while. But, then she ran out of USB ports on her computer and needed more. She bought a Belkin adapter that had 6 more ports on it and we hooked it into the same port that the printer was originally in.

My problem is that after trying nearly everything, I cannot for the life of me get the printer to, well...print. Even if I unhook the adapter and plug the printer straight into the computer, restart, and try to print I still get nothing.

If anyone has any idea what may be causing conflicts, please give me your insight.

Which OS..? and try removing it from "Printers" and allow OS to re-recognize and re-install(upon reboot)my HP PSC750 is on a 1.1 USB hub works fine thru it..as always YMMV

OS is Win 98SE. I have reinstalled the printer already to no avail.

I've had to tango with this computer before, and it was certainly no waltz; not cooperative by any means.

Installing the printer software when the printer is connected to the computer through a USB hub can cause errors and prevent a successful installation. For more detailed instructions and troubleshooting information, see the HP Photosmart Software Setup & Product Support booklet.

NOTE: Do not connect the printer to the computer until prompted to do so.

remove the software thru the Add/Remove Programs..after unplugging the device..if possible upon restart get into the BIOS and Load Default Settings..tweak certain items dealing with USB(enable) and other things like boot sequence, etc. ..do not change default ECP/or other port printer settings...save..load up OS ..run the software utility then hook up the printer to regular backpane USB port

Heh...had hoped I wouldn't be reduced to relying on an idiot sheet. I suppose at some point I would have had to accept it.

Thanks for the link. I'll go ahead and use the cd install and follow those instructions in doing so. We'll see what happens.

I'll look at the bios settings as well. I had to fiddle with settings at one point just to get the computer running again and I forget now what it was... Thanks for the tip though Silicon.

thank mechBgon without his goad I wouldn't have kept going sometimes if you tweak it too much ..you will get screams ..your own

Hehe, I was expecting the counter-intuitive issue that DeskJet 952C's have... you must de-select Plug & Play auto-detection, and sometimes tell it to use a virtual printer port, at least in Win2000:

From Windows, click "Start", "Settings", "Printers".
Next, double-click "Add Printer".
When the Add Printer Wizard screen appears, click "Next".
Choose "Local Printer", uncheck "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer", and click "Next".
For USB users select "USB" and click "Next". For Parallel cable users select "LPT1" and click "Next".
To continue, click the "Have Disk" button.
Next, click "Browse" and go to the folder "c:\dj950\2kxpinf\enu\drivers\Win2k_xp". An "hpf950k.inf" file will be displayed. Select the file name and click "Open".
Click "OK" to continue. "hp deskjet 950c series" will now be found in the Printers column. Now, click the "Next" button.

is it a powered hub ? alot of USB stuff won't work on a non-powered one .

also have you tryed re-pluging the printer to the USB port directly on the comp to see if it works again ?
