Granted they didn't actually fix the problem they did spend about 2 hours on the phone with my wife Wednesday afternoon trying to work through the problem. They were patient and took the time to try and work through the problem with a total computer n00b like my wife...God knows I couldn't have done that.
Basically, the computer wasn't seeing the printer. I came home, uninstalled and reinstalled it and had it working in a matter of 15 minutes but it stopped working again before the evening was through.
I ended up disconnecting the USB connection and plugging it into my router and installed it as a network printer. Problem solved. Anyway, my wife said the woman she spoke to actually sounded like English was her first language...go figure.
The printer is an HP 3800DN for anyone who's interested...we've had it 4 months. I'm thinking it might have been the USB cable but since I wanted to set it up as a network printer anyway I don't really care.
